About Me
Hi, my name’s Thom and I’m a Data Scientist and Product Owner. I hold a master’s degree in Sociology and Psychology and advanced university certificates in applied sciences in the areas of Data and Machine Learning. I’m excited about new technology with curiosity for always extending my skillset. Besides a proven ability in teaching people coding skills and data concepts I’m always up to learn something new myself.
I have 10+ years of management expertise as a Team Lead, Head of IT Operations and Head of Data Analytics Department. As a Business Developer and Product Owner I’m always in for customer centricity and communication as key factors to success. Customer Satisfaction and Customer Experience Management have always been a key component as a manager and developer.
In 20+ years as a coder and analyst I mastered different programming languages and tools. I have always strived to expend my horizon and acquire new skills focusing on new ways to perform tasks more efficiently and future-proof.
As a Data Scientist I build Machine Learning models to maximize the value of customer experiences and automate text processing for more efficient pipelines. At the interface between Data Science and Social Sciences I deal with xAI to work towards human-friendly explanations and transparency in algorithm-driven automated decision-making.
When it comes to AI I love to be close to the latest developments and scientific debates as well as to exchange with other companies in order to deploy AI applications to create the greatest possible business value.
I am most skilled in R and Tableau, mastering Python and currently improving my skills in SAS Viya, SAS Visual Analytics and SQL.
As a Product Owner in a Data Science Scrum Team in a SAFe environment I maximize the value of innovative Machine Learning solutions to build the future claims products in the Social Insurance Industry.

Management decision-making processes are based on future-oriented information on scenarios and forecasts. This requires near real-time insights and conclusions to be drawn from a wealth of structured and unstructured, internal and external data sources. Advanced methods of data management, arbitrarily scalable computing power and the extended capabilities of analytics and forecasting make this possible. This development poses great challenges for many companies, but also opens up numerous new perspectives.
Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena is one of the oldest and most traditional universities in Germany. On the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the university, Jena was awarded the title "City of Science" in 2008. In 2018 the university was again able to acquire additional funding within the framework of the Excellence Initiative with the research cluster "Balance of the Microverse".
